About Us

Monsoon Monitors in its current form was started in early 2019.

However that is not to say that was the beginning of our reptile experience

Over 10 years ago while still living in south west Sydney my childhood interest in reptiles began to surface again, so we took the kids to a reptile show in Sydney. That may have been a good, or bad idea.

The kids came home with a Beardy called Fred.

Seeing that reptiles were much more widely available than when I was younger I decided to look a bit more into the hobby again.

I purchased some Gillens Monitors.

From that point on I quickly rediscovered my love of reptiles (something that now influences many areas of my life on a daily basis) and gravitated towards monitors.

Rather than keep a few different types of reptiles I decided I was going to specialise in a particular group.

Along the way we started a reptile accessories supply company called Ironbark Pets.

But, as fun as that was the opportunity arose to move to far north QLD.

Thinking that would be the perfect place to expand my keeping and outdoor enclosures, we went for it.

Ironbark was closed down and on the final drive up to Cairns from Sydney, in an OKA 4x4 filled to the brim with tubs of reptiles we decided to start Monsoon Monitors.

Experiance & Care

Monsoon Monitors strives for excellence in what we do.

All our reptiles are kept with as minimal stress as possible, avoiding over handling and poor environmental factors.

Our animals, from hatchlings to adults, are kept with correct UVB, Heat, Humidity, Vitamin and Mineral supplementation, varied diets and behaviour enrichment.

Coupling this with our years of experience in monitor keeping allows us to "monitor" our animals for the best outcomes.

Our Facility

Monsoon Monitors is situated in the tropical rainforest of Kuranda. Near Cairns FNQ on the table lands.

Living in the tropics and in the rain forest of course has its own set backs to keeping reptiles.

Issues such as humidity, temperatures, the wet season and cyclones, need to be overcome for some species and are a bonus for others.

Where possible and beneficial we keep our animals in outdoor enclosures such as modified aviary's of various sizes, IBC based enclosures and shortly to be finished, another 12 large outdoor pits.

Of course with the more mild summers during the wet season on the table lands some species do much better with an indoor controlled environment.

Currently, we run 3 large sheds with a 4th being planned.

2 sheds contain self built timber enclosures to maximise size and space usage as well as customized to my preferred method of keeping.

The 3rd shed being primarily a grow out and Hatchie care area.

Further in the works is our slowly growing rodent breeding facility to accommodate for our many hungry mouths and for retail through Cairns Snake Snacks.
